Salbany & Torto Attorneys ("The Firm") is multi-specialty law firm which aims is to provide personalized and professional service and to dispense practicable legal advice of the highest quality.

The firm Salbany & Torto Attorneys was established in January of 2007. Our clientele includes statutory corporations, large to medium sized corporates, insurance companies, banks and other financial institutions.

The firm’s is comprised of two partners with a depth of experience in the fields of corporate/commercial law, industrial relations and employment law, banking constitutional, conveyancing, company and property law among others. The firm further employs two other attorneys and hence is well resourced to provide its clientele with services according to turn around times required by clients.

The individual experience and qualifications of the firm's partners and attorneys are as follows:-

Marvin Thokozani Torto (Managing Partner) graduated from University of Botswana (UB) in 1998 with a Bachelor of Laws and was admitted to practice in that same year as a Conveyancer, Notary Public and Attorney of the Courts of Botswana. Marvin worked for Segopolo & Company from 1998 to 2000, when he joined Bayford & Associates until 2006. In January 2007 Marvin left Bayford & Associates to establish the firm.

Marvin has extensive experience in Property law and Conveyancing, Corporate/ Commercial work litigation and debt recovery. Additionally, during his tenure with Bayford & Associates Marvin gained considerable experience in criminal litigation and trial conduct. This experience coupled with an alternative dispute resolution approach to law enables Marvin to offer clients sound and practical legal advice.

Marvin currently heads and supervises the conveyancing, civil litigation and debt collection areas of the practice, details of which are given below. He is also a member of the board of directors of Botswana Fibre Networks (BoFinet).

Mpho Gaobakwe (Senior Partner) obtained her LLB degree from the University of Botswana in 1998 and was in that same year, admitted to practice as an attorney, notary and conveyancer of the Courts of Botswana. Mpho commenced her professional career with Collins Newman & Co. where she gained extensive experience in the fields of corporate law, including drafting and vetting of commercial agreements, commercial litigation, labour law and conveyancing.

In 2005, Mpho joined Public Enterprises Evaluation and Privatisation Agency (PEEPA) in the capacity of in-house corporate counsel and corporation secretary. In this position Mpho gained hands on experience in corporate transaction work in the privatisation arena, which experience, coupled with that gained while in private practice has given Mpho a well-rounded knowledge of law and policy both in the private and public sector in Botswana.

Mpho joined the firm in 2007 and currently heads the Labour and Corporate/ Commercial law areas of the practice, details of which are given below. Mpho is a member of the Board of Directors of the Botswana Savings Bank and also sits as a member of the Gaborone City Council Physical Planning Committee.

Igobe Tamapo Pie (Consultant/Senior Associate) obtained his law degree from the University of Botswana in 1991. He began his private practice career at Minchin & Kelly in 1992 until 1996 when he joined Air Botswana as Corporation Secretary and General Counsel. Mr Pie joined Phumaphi Chakalisa and Co Attorneys in 1998 until 2000 when he practiced on his own accord under the name and style of IT Pie Attorneys until 2004 when he joined the business sector.

Igobe's areas of practice are commercial law - with a specialization in mining, civil and commercial litigation and regulatory compliance. He has recently obtained an MSc Degree in Financial Services Management from Salford University, Manchester and also holds an Insurance COP. Mr Pie has also attended a number of commercial conferences on company mergers, acquisitions and privatization. He is a member of the Botswana Medical Board, a Ministry of Health Appeal Board for Workman's Compensation Assessments.

Phenyo Sekape (Associate) obtained his law degree from the University of Botswana in 2012. He began his professional career at Bayford & Associates as a pupil and subsequently worked at Lediretse Attorneys as an associate attorney. Phenyo joined the firm in 2015 and his practice areas include employment law, administrative law, litigation and debt collection.

Nametso Dire (Associate) obtained her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Botswana in 2013. She was also admitted as an Attorney of the Courts of Botswana in this same year and began her career as a pupil attorney at Kamushinda Kaluzi Attorneys where she was later confirmed as an Associate attorney. She continued thereafter as an Associate attorney with Kaluzi & Associates until early 2016 when she joined the firm. Her key areas of practice are commercial law litigation and debt recovery and she has also had experience in Family Law practice. Ms Dire is also a practising Conveyancer and Notary Public.

Shathani Majingo (Associate) obtained her Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Botswana in 2016. She is admitted as an Attorney of the High Courts of Botswana and is a member of the Law Society of Botswana. Shathani is also a practising Conveyancer and Notary Public.
